This virtual course will be covering the statutory requirements for making accurate teacher assessments in reading, writing, maths and science.  STA training materials will be used to support teachers in making accurate judgements.  Key information for administering the KS1 SATs in reading and maths will also be discussed.

Teachers are asked to have access to examples of writing for two children, one 'working towards the expected standard' and one 'working at the expected standard', so that they can moderate their teacher assessment judgements.  Please also have acces to a copy of the 'Teacher Assessment Frameworks at the end of Key Stage 1 for 2018-2019 onwards'.

Code: CPD/22/54 SEND: High School Workshop - How to support Speech & Language needs in a Secondary School

Please note this is a 2 day course, both days must be attended.


This course provides an overview of what is meant by the terms ‘speech’, ‘language’ and ‘communication’ and how these areas develop in adolescence to enable you to identify students in your setting who may have speech, language and communication difficulties. We will look at what difficulties Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students may face and discuss practical strategies and approach that can support students in these areas.

Ideal For:
Any practitioners working with Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students including: teaching assistants, teachers and SENCOs.
This course is particularly useful for staff that are new to a setting or role supporting students or for those who would like to refresh their knowledge of speech, language and communication skills and relevant supportive strategies.

Please note: This course will be run as an online training session via Microsoft Teams. When you book, you will receive information about how to access the training and how the session will be run.
